As a lithium-ion battery technology business for nearly a decade, Topband briefly summarizes the three major factors that affect the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries, including the performance and quality of the battery itself, the working environment of the battery, and the usage methods of the battery:
1. The performance and quality of the battery itself
The production and manufacturing level of lithium battery manufacturers themselves is an inherent factor affecting their service life, such as:
(1) When the environmental level is too high during production and manufacturing, it is more likely to cause battery bulging;
(2) When cutting the electrode, the burrs are not satisfactory (at the edge), and the burrs are too large, which can easily puncture the diaphragm during use and cause internal short circuits;
Burrs on the edge of lithium battery electrode slices
(3) The electrode welding is not firm and easy to break, which is basically invisible and cannot be repaired;
2. The working environment of the battery
(1) Temperature: High temperatures can reduce the lifespan of lithium batteries, and overheating can cause accelerated chemical reactions inside the battery, which may lead to battery leakage or even explosion; And too low a temperature can also reduce the battery's lifespan.
(2) Humidity: Excessive humidity in the working environment can easily lead to short circuits, bulging, rusting of electrode welding, and also affect the battery's service life;
3. User's usage of batteries
(1) Charging and discharging rates: Excessive charging or discharging rates can accelerate the capacity decay of the battery and reduce its lifespan. Of course, if a high rate charging and discharging battery is produced using raw materials formulated with fast charging technology, the impact will be much smaller.
(2) Overcharging or discharging
Charging without protection can lead to overcharging or excessive discharge during discharge, which can damage the structure of the chemical raw materials inside the battery and shorten its service life.
(3) Charger: Low quality chargers can lead to faster battery capacity decay, thereby shortening battery life. Due to the poor performance of electronic components and poor intelligent control performance of low-quality chargers, it is likely to cause unstable charging current, which will affect battery service life. Conversely, if the performance and quality of the charger are good, it can not only fit well with the charging protocol of the battery protection board, It can only control a stable charging current and automatically monitor under what conditions and how much current to use for charging (automatically adjusting the charging current based on the battery level).
(4) Charging maintenance: Without regular charging for a long time without use, it can lead to deep discharge of the battery, accelerate the aging and decay of chemical raw materials inside the battery, and thus affect the battery's lifespan.
(5) Other factors such as battery pressure, vibration, and physical collision damage can all affect the lifespan of lithium batteries.
