Lithium ion batteries are now mainly divided into three categories, namely, square, cylindrical and soft packs; The square and cylindrical shells are mainly made of aluminum alloy, stainless steel and other hard shells, while the flexible shell is made of aluminum plastic film. What are the advantages of the flexible lithium battery compared with the square and cylindrical shells?
1. Good safety function: the electrolyte of the soft packed battery leaks less, and the soft packed battery will burst when there is a potential safety hazard, unlike the hard shell battery, which will burst if the internal pressure is too high;
2. Light weight: the weight of the soft packed battery is 40% lighter than that of the steel case square battery with equal capacity, and 20% lighter than that of the aluminum case square battery;
3. Large battery capacity: soft package saves 20% of the volume, which is 50% higher than the steel case battery of the same specification and scale, and 20~30% higher than the aluminum case battery;
4. Good cycle function: the cycle life of the soft packed battery is longer, and the attenuation of 100 cycles is 4%~7% less than that of the aluminum shell;
5. Small internal resistance: the internal resistance of the soft packed battery is smaller than that of the lithium battery, which can be less than 35m Ω at least in China, greatly reducing the self consumption of the battery;
6. Flexible planning: the shape can be customized according to customer needs, and it can be thinner. Generally, the aluminum shell can only be 4mm, and the soft package can be 0.5mm.
In terms of functions, the flexible lithium battery has more inductive advantages and broad prospects for future use:
1. The flexible battery is more suitable for portable applications requiring high space or thickness, such as 3C consumer electronics;
2. Although the single cell of the square battery has high capacity, it is heavy and large, and the flexible battery has significant advantages in energy density. Now the single cell is also developing towards large capacity and high magnification, which will better meet the requirements for mobile power in new energy vehicles and other fields;
